All good things about Washington is that almost everything that is worth absolutely free. The monuments are free to attend and the Smithsonian museums (plural) and the National Gallery of Art may also contact the public.
The only thing I suggest that you do not waste your money on souvenirs that so many people seem to want. Do we really need a "Washington DC, the memorial-Spoon", "Made in China, that lead was? Or a fridge magnet $ 3?
A word of warning. Most foods are too expensive in DC. If you want to go for a snack while on the National Mall, I suggest you go to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and visit the food court, prices are reasonable and the average price.

Avoid museums with outrageous fees, there is really nothing that can not in other museums. So, do not let that someone tell you that it do much walking in Washington DC. DC is like New York, on the lattice, and we can all that work, everywhere. Let raked out of date to be raised from the taxi drivers, and dont get into the purchase of road maps from random people on the street corners and in subway stations, and you'll take to the sights and to go and spend $ $ $. Having lived here so long, I finally thought it all out, and frustration.
In fact, they are numerous. Almost all attractions are legitimate and offer free admission, including all national monuments and Smithsonian museums odd dozen.
Who would be perceived as disturbing, is another question. Some people, for example, could a few days at the National Gallery of Art, while others take their time elsewhere, would like a visit to the giant panda at the National Zoo.
It is best to get a good guide for the journey. So if you something that looks interesting, you can check before
Here are some places to be avoided: ESPN Zone, Hard Rock Cafe, Madame Tussauds.
